My Family Recipes

Cross-platform mobile app for families to preserve, share, and cook from a shared recipe collection. AI-powered scanning turns photos and URLs into structured recipes instantly.

Overview

My Family Recipes is a consumer product built by Twin Current. The idea started simple: families have recipes scattered across handwritten cards, bookmarked websites, screenshots, and memory. When someone wants to cook grandma's stew, they text around asking for the recipe. When grandma is no longer around, the recipe might be lost entirely.

The app solves this by giving families a shared, private recipe collection. Anyone in the family can add recipes -- by scanning a photo of a handwritten card, pasting a URL from a recipe website, or typing it in manually. The AI handles the tedious work of extracting structured data from unstructured sources.

The backend is built with Rust and Axum for performance and reliability. The app has iterated rapidly from v1 in January 2026 to v3 in February 2026, driven by real user feedback.

The Challenge

  • Family recipes exist in fragmented formats: handwritten cards, screenshots, bookmarks, and oral tradition
  • Existing recipe apps focus on discovery (finding new recipes), not preservation (keeping family recipes)
  • Scanning handwritten or photographed recipes requires accurate AI parsing of unstructured text
  • Cross-platform requirement: families use a mix of iOS and Android devices
  • Offline access is essential since kitchens often have poor connectivity
  • Ingredient scaling needs to handle unit conversions and fractional amounts correctly

The Solution

A mobile-first app designed around how families actually share and use recipes.

AI Recipe Scanning

Point your phone at a handwritten recipe card, a cookbook page, or a recipe URL. The AI extracts ingredients, instructions, and metadata automatically.

Family Sharing Groups

Create private family groups where members can contribute, browse, and cook from a shared recipe collection. Grandma adds her recipes, grandkids cook them.

Offline Access

Recipes sync to your device. No internet in the kitchen? No problem. Full access to your saved recipes with or without a connection.

Ingredient Scaling

Cooking for 2 instead of 8? Scale any recipe up or down and the app recalculates every ingredient amount.

Recipe Organization

Tag, categorize, and search your collection. Filter by cuisine, meal type, dietary needs, or family member who contributed it.

iOS & Android

Native app experience on both platforms. Available on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.
